Great news overnight, I was awarded three top twenty awards in the Wedding Photojournalists Association Q4 competition.

Eilean Donan Castle - 2nd in the Reception Ambiance category.

JUDGES COMMENTS: Beautiful scene that clearly captures the the glory of this amazing setting.

JUDGES COMMENTS: What a setting. This picture almost reminds you of a puzzle you’d put together -- a great rendition of a unique setting for a wedding reception.

JUDGES COMMENTS: Good thinking by the photographer to take this photograph from a distance to allow the structure and the landscape to speak for itself. The diffused, soft light helps to create a mood from another time.

Lynne & Alan - New Drumossie Hotel Inverness

It was prity cold last weekend up in Inverness but that didn't dampen the spirits of Lynne and Alan or any of their 300 guests! They had organised a fantastic day which included some cracking bands and the Red Hot Chillie Pipers in the evening. It was really was a special day with so many friends around them to wish them well.

Fortingall Wedding

I received a lovely email during the week from Laura and Edward whose wedding I photographed in Fortingall, Perthshire last September.

Hi Nick,

Many apologies for the delay in emailing you - married life has been pretty hectic so far!

We have finally had the chance to show off your wonderful album to all our friends and family and just wanted to let you know that everyone loved it!

Oran Mor Award Winning Image

Merry Christmas, I hope you all had a great day yesterday and are putting your feet up today.
Just thought I would share this bit of news with you, this picture of Oran Mor in Glasgow has won recognition with the Wedding Photographers Association (WPJA), it was placed 17th in last quarters competition. 17th may not sound that great but the competition is open to all WPJA members around the world, so getting a picture in the top 20 is prity cool.

International Aperture 2009 Awards

More good news from the 2009 Aperture Awards, this time in the landscape category. I have won another bronze award for this image of Buachaille Etive Mor that I made back in February. It was early morning and -10 as I was standing in the River Etive, so I am delighted that the trip and photograph was worth while.

International Aperture 2009 Awards

Great news - I heard overnight that I have won a bronze award at this years International Aperture Awards. The Aperture awards are the worlds most prestigious online photography awards and are judged by a panel of internationally renowned photographers. The image that I submitted was taken at the Old Fruit Market in Glasgow this summer and scored a respectable 79 out of 100 only 1 point of silver!

I have been neglecting the blog for the last month or so, my 6 week old baby daughter has been taking up rather a lot of time since she was born.

Anyway, I thought I would post this quick email that I received from Catherine & Jonathan whose wedding I photographed in Inverness earlier this year.

I am sorry it has taken so long to write to thank you. We recieved the wedding album and are delighted with it. Its lovely to see the photos printed off and in such a beautiful album. It took us a while to find a photogragher that we liked and we are glad to say we have not been disappointed. Christmas Delivery

It's that time of year again where I have to say the Xmas word..... Christmas Delivery Deadlines.

The final date for album designs to be signed off in time for Christmas delivery will be the 1st of December. If you are deciding on your selections for an album at the moment please also allow a few weeks for the design process. This means I require your selections by mid November.

Print orders can still be placed up to Sunday the 12th of December for delivery within the UK. If we are still having problems with the mail service, print orders can be delivered by courier instead of Royal Mail, please select this option when ordering.

Emma & Darren - Culcreuch Castle Hotel, Fintry

Emma & Darren had been praying for fine weather since they booked their Autumn wedding, well the weather gods were shinning down on them last Thursday. I don't think I can remember such a warm and sunny day in October.

Culcreuch Castle Hotel was the venue for their wedding, which was bathed in sunshine all afternoon bringing the autumnal colours out in the woodlands surrounding the Castle. It was a cracking afternoon that couldn't have worked out better.

Real Life Weddings

It's always nice to be asked by a magazine if they can publish a set of photographs they have seen on your website. It's even better when you tell the bride and groom involved they have made the glossy pages of "Real Life Weddings".

The wedding featured is Kara and Iain, held at Roman Camp Hotel in Callander back in May. This was one of my favorite weddings of this year, I captured some really nice pictures but it was more to do with the couple and their guests, everybody was so relaxed and happy for Kara and Iain it made my job so easy.

Mother Of The Bride

I always appreciate it when clients take the time to write to say thank you, but when the mother of bride writes to you, you know you have done a great job!

I received this email yesterday regarding Gordon and Mel's wedding I photographed at Glasgow City Halls and the Old Fruitmarket in August.

Hi Nick,

You really should be upgraded to 'No 1 Photographer of the Year'. The photos are absolutely incredible and you have done us all proud! Since Mel & Gordon's photos went on line, I’ve hardly been able to drag my self away from the pc. You really have captured the essence of this magical day and through your amazing photos we're all able to re-live the day again and again. The only trouble is that in having so many great photos to choose from, it’s a struggle to choose between them as I love each and every one. Everyone else who has seen them remarks on how wonderful and especially unique they are. September 20th is a memorable day for me, its my wedding anniversary. So when Emma and Chris contacted me and told me there wedding date I had to check with my better half before agreeing to photograph their big day!
It was a cracking day, the ceremony was held at St Johns Renfield Church in the west end followed by some pictures in the Botanic Gardens and then a stroll across Byres Road to Oran Mor for the reception.

Laura & Edward - Fortingall, Perthshire

What a difference a week makes, from the wet and windy last weekend to the glorious, warm and sunny this week. Fortingall is a small village to the north of Loch Tay in Perthshire. A beautiful little place with a church, hotel and community hall, everything thing you need for a wedding!
Laura and Edward wanted a relaxed wedding day so they, their family and friends could come together to celebrate and enjoy themselves in the beautiful Scottish countryside, well they couldn't have done it better. The sun shone from dawn to dusk that allowed everybody to meet up at the Fortingall Hotel for a drink, walk next door to the church for the ceremony and enjoy the afternoon sunshine whilst sipping champagne in the hotel garden.

The only slightly stressful part of the day was the short stroll along the road (the only road) to the hall for the wedding breakfast and evening entertainment.

A great day.

Kirstie & Richard - Dirleton Castle & The Marine Hotel North Berwick

I always love coming through to East Lothian as I was brought up in the area, so I was delighted when Kirstie & Richard asked me to photograph their wedding at Dirleton Castle near North Berwick. The castle and grounds are open to the public so by the time Kirstie arrived we had quite a few well-wishers from visitors to the castle.

The day was gorgeous, bright sunshine but unfortunately very windy which meant to save the brides veil from flying into the surrounding countryside the ceremony was held in the vaulted cellar of the castle. This is a fantastic atmospheric chamber that allowed Kirstie & Richard to have the romantic and intimate ceremony they had planned.

Amy & Steven - Portmahomack, Ross-Shire

I had a long journey to a beautiful part of Scotland last Saturday. Portmahomack is about an hour past Inverness a lovely seaside village with beautiful sandy beaches. Amy & Stevens wedding was held in Amy's parents garden with close friends and family in attendance. The weather was on its best behavior until a mini monsoon started just as Amy was stepping out of the house .... she quickly stepped back in. Within a few minutes the rain had passed over and Amy walked down into the garden to the awaiting Steven.

It was a lovely day, in a wonderful setting.

Mel & Gordon - Glasgow City Halls & Fruitmarket

I had been looking forward to Mel & Gordon's wedding all summer, they are good friends of mine and had invited me to their big day before I suggested taking their wedding photographs. Mixing being a guest but still having my professional hat on was very hard work, but I lasted until the dancing in the evening where I managed to steal a dance with my wife.

Glasgow City Halls and & the Old Fruitmarkets as a wedding venue really is something to see. Mel & Gordon had used the Recital Room for the ceremony that the staff then turned around in time for a fabulous dinner and then through into the Old Fruitmarkets for the evening entertainment. This venue has the ability to make your jaw drop, the lighting and set up makes for a real spectacle that is a photographers dream.
